Privacy policy
In short: Outsider has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no tracking and no ads. Your watchlist and settings stay in your browser. Your browser only talks to this website, never to other providers.
Who is responsible
Laurin Raphael Bitschnau, Vienna, Austria · hello@outsidertrades.com. Outsider is a private, non-commercial hobby project (see the imprint).
Hosting and server logs
The website runs on Vercel (Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA). When you open a page, your browser necessarily sends data that the server processes in order to deliver it: your IP address, the date and time, the requested address, the referring page and your browser’s identification (user agent). Vercel keeps such logs only for a short time, for operation and security. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interest in delivering the website safely. To guard against overload, the IP address is also held in the server’s memory for about a minute to count requests; it is not stored.
Vercel can process this data in the USA. Vercel is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR).
What stays in your browser
Your watchlist, what you follow, your appearance setting and, if you use it, your portfolio are stored in your browser’s local storage. They are never sent to me, and I cannot see them. This storage is strictly necessary for the functions you choose to use, so no consent is required (§ 165(3) Austrian Telecommunications Act 2021). You can delete everything under Settings → “Delete all data” or by clearing your browser data. There is no backup unless you export one.
Which requests leave the browser
For prices and to identify securities, the app sends tickers or ISINs to this website’s API, which may ask Yahoo Finance from the server. To compare with public filings, security identifiers are passed to the Outsider database. Share counts, purchase costs and broker files are never sent; broker files are read in the browser.
Company logos (Parqet, Financial Modeling Prep) and portraits (Wikimedia Commons, the @unitedstates images project) are fetched by this website’s server and delivered from here. These providers therefore never receive your IP address.
People shown in the app
Outsider shows names, roles and reported holdings or transactions of members of the US House of Representatives, corporate insiders and investment managers. This data comes from filings that US law requires to be public (SEC EDGAR, Clerk of the House), along with the official member directory and freely licensed portraits; nothing is collected from any other source. The purpose is to make these mandatory disclosures understandable to the public. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interest of the public in transparency that the law creates these disclosures for. Data is kept for as long as the filing is part of the shown history.
If you are shown and something is wrong, or you object to the processing, write to hello@outsidertrades.com. I will check it, correct errors and explain the decision.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Write to hello@outsidertrades.com. You can also complain to the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at).
You are not required to provide any data. There is no automated decision-making or profiling.
As of October 27, 2026. If the app changes how it handles data, this page is updated first.
